It was a fantastic weekend of football for Little League’s FC Kuala Lumpur and FC Bandar Utama teams on 13th and 14th May as the 2017 AirAsia KL Junior League came to a close.
With 2 teams competing in each age-group, Little League Soccer was well represented in this season of the Junior League. That the academy saw such success across the competition is a huge bonus.
The first silverware of the weekend went to Coach Naqib’s FC Kuala Lumpur U15 team who claimed a very impressive second place in the Under-16 League Cup competition. After facing tough opponents all season they proved in the Cup that they are learning from the experience of playing one age group up and were deserved winners of their silver medals.
There were more silver medals next as Coach Azizi lead his FC Kuala Lumpur Under-16 team up to collect their runners-up prize from the AirAsia KL Junior League. Following a very tight season, the side claimed second place on goal difference – a positive result heading into the second season of 2017 in August.
Time to shine for 8s, 10s and 12s
Saturday’s prize giving ceremony brought to a close the action for the U14s and 16s but Sunday held plenty more for Little League’s FC Kuala Lumpur and FC Bandar Utama teams.
In the Under-8 and Under-10 competitions, Sunday 14th May marked the final match of the season, and while the top spots of the league had already been decided, our teams still had lots to play for. There was plenty of tension in the Under-12 age-group too, as FC Bandar Utama faced SKBD FT17 in the Cup final and FC Kuala Lumpur took on KLYS in the Cup 3rd/4th play-off.
Coach Shazwan’s Under-10 FCKL team would be the first to claim their medals though as a superb 9-1 victory over Unite Soccer School saw them confirm their third place finish in the league. Tied on points with second placed KLYS, they just lost out on the silver medals by goal difference.
Following the ceremony, the attention turned to the Under-12 Cup, where Coach Azizi’s FC Kuala Lumpur produced a strong display to beat KLYS 2-1 and claim third place to go along with their league runners-up medals.
All that was left to top off an almost perfect day for Little League was for Coach Akim and the FC Bandar Utama Under-12s to complete a famous AirAsia KL Junior League double. Having secured the league title a few weeks earlier, they were set on taking home the Cup trophy as well.
A tense game saw FCBU go one goal up only to concede shortly afterwards but after a strong half-time briefing the team came out firing in the second half to get the crucial winner 10 minutes before the end of the game. Celebrations could be heard across The New Camp as FC Bandar Utama completed their dominance of the league and cup.
Congratulations to all the players, parents and coaches involved in this season of the league. We look forward to the success continuing later in the year!
