Elite U7 and U14 teams win KL Cup trophies

Little League Soccer's elite FC Kuala Lumpur teams see success at the 2020 KL Cup

There was great news for Little League Soccer’s elite FC Kuala Lumpur teams at the beginning of March as the Under 7 and Under 14 teams won gold at the 2020 Kuala Lumpur Cup!

Competing in the tournament’s fifth edition, our elite teams took on clubs from Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia and India across 5 age groups, from Under 8 to Under 16.

It was our youngest team who claimed the first silverware. Qualifying for the Bowl competition in the Under 8 category, the FCKL U7 Falcons (made up largely of players graduating through the Little League Soccer U6 programme) beat local side Harimau Remaja in a gripping final at Ardence Arena.

Led by Coach Nazrin, the boys then had the chance to share a podium with ex Liverpool and England number 1 David James at the KL Cup prize giving ceremony.

Other notable results for Little League’s elite teams at Ardence Arena included second place in the U10 Shield competition for the FCKL EDP 2 team, and fifth place in the Cup competition for the FCKL U10s.

Over at The New Camp, our teams saw even more success. Playing in the morning session, the FC Kuala Lumpur U14s went all the way to the Cup final without conceding a goal – and then maintained their perfect record with a 1–0 victory over KLYS. Huge congratulations to the team and head Coach Simon.

Not to be outdone, the FCKL U13s, playing an age group up this year, took home the bronze medal in the Under 14 Plate competition – a fantastic achievement for the young team.

In the Under 16 age group, our elite teams were looking to follow in the U14s’ footsteps. And it looked like a place in the final could be coming until a 1–0 loss to Euro Soccer Academy from Singapore meant they would play for the bronze medal.

Not dampened by the semi final loss, though, they regained their composure and came out 1–0 victors over Indonesian side Diklat Merden in the Cup third-fourth playoff.

Overall, it was a fantastic outing for Little League Soccer’s sister teams, and a true testament that the club’s development pathway is showing positive results.

We look forward to reporting even more success from our elite squads as matches resume following the Covid-19 interruptions.
